A few months ago I was challenged to pick my Top Ten Catholic Books. And it really got me thinking. And I have had a lot of feedback on the post. So my question to you is if you could only pick 1 Catholic book to read what would it be?

It's a tie between 'A Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulation' by St Thomas More and 'The Prayers & Meditations of St Anselm' by, you guessed it, St Anselm!
Seriously... did I read through all these, AND on LinkedIN, and no one wrote 'the Bible'? OH, this IS a CATHOLIC response!! LOL.... From my just completed MA Theology program, the required study bible for the program is the Catholic Study Bible, 3rd Ed; New York: Oxford UP, 2010 Print. The 'Reading Guide' is sufficient background on scripture history, literature, and general explanation to provide any reader a stronger background in scripture reading. Footnotes in each biblical book lend to immediate expanded comprehension of the verses. The paper of each page lends to underlining, notations, and highlighting. Belongs on every desk, every bedside, or every reading table, where ever one sits and reads. Use the paper copy. Software changes make the electronic books vulnerable to constant software updates and loss of any longitudinal info one may wish to retain.

Yes, I assumed that you meant "other than the Bible" (especially since the Bible is not a book but a collection of books and other literary works).
My book is, hands down, "Transformation in Christ" by Dietrich von Hildebrand. A masterpiece on moral and spiritual growth by the greatest Catholic philosopher of the 20th century.
Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said, "When the intellectual history of the Catholic Church in the 20th century is written, Dietrich von Hildebrand's name will be the most prominent." Also, Pope Pius XII once referred to Hildebrand as "the 20th century doctor of the Church".
