This is an incredible short story. And to be honest I really hope it will be part of a larger series. I read one of Eric's non-fiction books half dozen years ago. When I got the chance to get some of his newer writings I jumped at it. It was not until I started it that I realized that this book is a short story. It is very well written and could be the beginning of a series or even between books. The world is so well planned out and crafted.

The description of the book is:

"It's 2049: a union of Islamic caliphates controls Europe, and a similar incursion is reaching the shores of America.

Philip Russell just wants to see the sights in Washington before returning home to his loving fiancée. Instead, he soon finds himself caught up in a violent clash of cultures that quickly becomes personal. With the whole world watching, he'll have to make a choice: faith or friendship."

And in one of those cases where you hope and pray that life does not imitate art, this book sis set in a very different future. In this future an Islamic caliphate controls all of Europe except England. Pope Gregory XVII is in residence in England, and the popes have been in exile since 2037 and the overthrow of the legitimate Italian government. It is the story of a friendship that has lasted nearly a lifetime, it is the story of one man's faith, and it is the story of what might yet be.

I read on average well over 100 books a year. And I love short stories that fit in series either before the main books, or between that as is becoming so popular. This is an incredible short story, and though currently it is standalone the world that Sammons's has crafted could easily stand up for many books on either side of this story. This is a great little read. In fact it was so good that as soon as I finished it I went back and reread it again. I have been thinking about it non-stop for hours and know that it will stay with me a long time. And as soon as I finished this story I started reading one of Eric's non-fiction books and it is just as amazing. I highly recommend this short story and it is available for an amazing price! So give it and try and let me know what you think.
