I loved this follow up book. I really like the concept of Saint Michael the Archangel Academy series. Book 1, Saving Mount Rushmore, was a fun read and book 2 is even better. I read the first book because authors I enjoy were recommending it. I read book 2 because I thoroughly enjoyed book 1. This is a good read. I have really enjoyed both books, and now have them in the ‘to be read’ pile of books to read with my children. I think my youngest two will love these books, and I hope there will be more books in the series. In my review of book 1 I stated that this is: “ a fast-paced adventure. In some ways it reminds me of The Relic of Perilous Falls by Raymond Arroyo Will Wilder Book 1, and also the 39 Clues Series. This story focuses on using the gives we have from god for God.” And that become even more relevant in book 2.

This book is a mix of adventure, faith, learning, and history. And being completely honest the Saint Michael the Archangel Academy is a place I would love to attend, as a student or faculty. In this adventure the children of team Liberty learn that there is in fact a dark mirror of the Saint Michael Academy. And that the mission they had in book one spoiled a test for Devlin Black and his crew. And this time, the teams are being pitted against each other with both getting the same clues. This time John has found a journal from his great-great-great-Uncle, a George Jenkins. Team Liberty follows the rules. They try to do the right things and do them for the right reasons. Where Team Mischief from Maleficus Academy brake all the rules and only want to cause problems, mayhem and mischief. Thus, living up to their names.

In this book we learn a lot about Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty. History of immigration in America. And we learn about being part of a team and doing what is right, even if it is hard, and even if it means helping an enemy. The two teams are following the exact same clues. Who will be the first to solve the clues and will Liberty of Mischief be the victors? To find out you will need to read.

This is a great middle grade read, with an excellent lesson. It will provide a history lesson, wrapped in a mystery, that is uncovered by teamwork. You will fall in love with the characters and enjoy the journey. And I for one look forward to further adventures of team liberty.

Note: This book is part of a series of reviews: 2019 Catholic Reading Plan!
