Jorge Sáez (J.S.) Criado is an engineer by day and an author by night. He has written supernatural suspense novels and now this the second in his science fiction series. But only the memories of Twilight are available in English. When I finished this book, I was desperate to find out if there would be a third volume. The story can end with this volume and leave it to the readers to determine what happens to David and Billy. But fortunately, in the author’s note at the ends states there will be a third volume. But, seeing as it is not yet available in Spanish it might still be a while yet. But back to the story.
This story continues right on the heals of Transfer Complete. Billy and David have transferred their consciousness into the web. They are there to fight the AI, Amy that they created and that got away from them. But things are not as simple as they appear. Amy has been working behind the scene for years. Swaying politics, popular opinion, and using a human counterpart to build a robot empire. When the laws start changing and abusing robots is outlawed. Soon followed by a man petitioning the court to marry his personal service robot. Then robots start running for office. First smaller office, mayor and governor and eventually even President of the United States. But the time humans start raising some resistance to the sweeping changes, all the police are in fact robots and ultimately under Amy’s control. The conflict Billy and David envisioned is now a long game, and popular opinion is against them and their goals from the start.
Billy and David find a possible ally in the physical world. But They need to be ever vigilant and cautious. They soon discover information about the mission to Mars that has far greater implications for Robotkind and Mankind.
This book was hard to put down. Once you start reading you will be hooked. It is a great read in what is shaping up to be an excellent Science Fiction story. In many ways it reminds me of some of Frank Herbert’s non-Dune stories, such as The Eye's of Heisenberg, or The Green Brain. It is an excellent read and I highly recommend it.
