Prayer On the God For Busy People - Raymond Edwards

Prayer on the Go:
For Busy People
Raymond Edwards
Catholic Truth Society
ISBN 9781784696030
CTS Booklet D830

Over the last 2 years I have read almost 100 books and booklets from the Catholic Truth Society there has not been a bad one and many have been excellent. And this little prayer book is a small treasure. It comes in just under 40 pages. It is one of those little booklets you want to buy in bulk and just keep giving it away. It is a small volume but packed with great prayers. Many of the prayers were familiar. A few were different versions of prayers I know and a few were new to me.

The chapters in the book are:
Busy-ness and chaos
What is prayer?
Pray often
Some prayers we might say
“Arrow prayers”
A reminder
A prayer in conclusion
Further reading
Endnotes

The books opens with a quote from Sir Jacob Astley, before the Battle of Edgehill 23rd October 1642:

“O Lord,
thou knowest how busy
I must be this day.
If I forget thee,
do not thou forget me.”

The book is not only packed full of prayers there are also several full page pictures of religious art and iconography. Dr. Edwards has compiled a wonderful little volume. I particularly enjoyed the ‘Arrow prayers’ section. And the book ends with a prayer from Saint Edmund of Abingdon, from the thirteenth century.

“O Lord, into your hands, and into the hands of
your holy angels, I command and entrust this day
myself, my relatives, my benefactors, my friends
and enemies, and all Christian people.

By the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
and of all your saints, keep us this day from
all evil and unruly desires, from all sins and
temptations of the devil, from sudden and
unprovided death, and from the pains of hell.

Enlighten my heart with the grace of your
Holy Spirit.

Grant that I may be ever obedient to your
commandments, and never let me be separated
from you.”

It is a great little book that I am sure you will want extra copies to be able to keep them at home, the office, in your laptop bag. Or just to have on hand to give away.
