I have come to depend on the books from the Catholic Truth Society. Over the last few years, I have read over 175 books, and booklets from the CTS. I have many series I love, and many authors who have published with CTS that are now among my all-time favorites. I have read many volumes from the CTS Great Saints Series, CTS Biographies, and also Saints of the Isles Series. And have loved almost all of them. I have also loved many of the Prayer books and volumes in the Devotions series. The description of this volume is:

“Enriched by the history, customs and scripture that surround the Holy Rosary, many today are rediscovering this prayer which lies at the heart of Catholic spirituality. Through ‘this school of prayer’ (St John Paul II) disciples grow in love for Christ through Mary, mother of the Lord. Designed for those familiar with the prayer as well as for newcomers, this text clearly explains how to pray the Rosary. Prayers and Scripture passages associated with the Rosary are also included.”

The sections in the book are:

The Rosary in History
Rediscovering the Rosary
Explaining the Rosary
     I. The Joyful Mysteries
     II. The Mysteries of Light
     III. The Sorrowful Mysteries
     IV. The Glorious Mysteries
How to say the Rosary
The Five Joyful Mysteries
The Five Mysteries of Light
The Five Sorrowful Mysteries
The Five Glorious Mysteries

I have read many books about the Rosary and many books on different ways to pray it. This book is a bit of both. This book was edited or revised by Donal Anthony Foley. It was first published in 2014 and the eBook released in 2017. The book begins with these words:

“The power of the Rosary comes from the fact that it is a meditation on the Scriptures with Mary, since the Our Father is Jesus’s own prayer given to his disciples when they had asked him how they should pray (Mt 6:9-13), and the first part of the Hail Mary is also Scriptural, being a compilation of part of the dialogue between Mary and the angel Gabriel at the Annunciation (Lk 1:28), combined with the exclamation made by Elizabeth during the Visitation (Lk 1:42).

The word Rosary means a crown of roses, that is, it is a spiritual bouquet given to the Blessed Virgin by those who pray to her.”

A little over half of this book is the history, the importance, the mysteries and a small collection of prayers. And the book concludes with a scriptural rosary. The eBook comes in at 48 pages and the physical book at 68. But it is well worth picking up.

I have read dozens of books about the rosary or books about praying the Rosary. And this is an excellent little volume to introduce readers, or as a reminder. And because of the size can be kept on hand easily. A fantastic read.

Another excellent resource from the Catholic Truth Society, I highly recommend it!
