Death of a Colony - A.R.K. Watson - A Seeded Sky Book

Death of a Colony
A Seeded Sky Book

This was the third story from A.R.K. Watson that I have read. Both The Vines of Mars and The Dunes: A Novella came highly recommended. Her works follow in a log line of Catholic Science Fiction stories. Reading this I was reminded of Sacred Visions edited by Andrew M. Geeley and the two volumes edited by Karina Fabian; Infinite Space, Infinite God II, and Infinite Space, Infinite God. This story is a short volume that is sort of a prelude to The Vines of Mars. As a fan of that story, it was excellent to read this story. And if you have not given that story a try, there is n extended sample at the end of this story.

The description of the novel is:

“When Tomás discovers what is killing Mars’ trees he must delve into the bug infested cave laboratories to find a cure and save the harvest. But his efforts mean nothing if the colony entomologist won’t believe him. To convince her, Tomás must navigate the deepest secrets of his home and the colonists he calls friends.

Also includes a preview to The Vines of Mars, a murder mystery set in space.”

This story is an excellent little read. It is a great introduction to the works of ARK Watson. It really gives you a feel for her writing. If you have read Vines of Mars you need to read this and if not give it a try I am sure you will be hooked. Note this story is available for free on the authors site for joining the mailing list.

Note: This book is part of a series of reviews: 2022 Catholic Reading Plan!
