I love reading books by Father Mark Going, CC. I greatly enjoy his many videos. And I believe his Saint Mark’s School of Reading is life changing. This is one of a few volumes that he has released that are a little different. It is a tool he has used in his own life for motivation and making changes in his life and he has released this notebook so others can use it.
The description of the book is:
“The SPARKLY STAR NOTEBOOK is all about tracking micro improvements in your life and forming good habits.”
The volume starts with one page of notes ‘How To Use The Notebook’ it is seven 1 sentence paragraphs, with 3 specific instructions on how to use the book. I myself am more of a digital journal kind of guy, and the family was using a chart on the wall, it started years ago with a reading challenge years ago. And my youngest two children still use it for three gaols. My son who is 16 has started using a white board for weekly goals. But he wiped it each week. I offered to pick one of these up for both him and his 13 year old sister. I mentioned that with this book he would have a history, if he high a rough patch the older successes could provide encouragement and challenge him to start again or step it up. He loved the idea and wanted to start so I ordered one for him. His sister declined.
My son has been using it for 2 months now and loves it. He occasionally adds notes on both successes and why he missed days, school, work, track & field … But he loves the format and the historical data it provides.
This is a great little tool. It has helped my son focus on making small changes and he is seeing successes and it is encouraging. It is not one I use but I do something very similar in a digital format. My son loves it; I wish his older sisters would give it a try. It is a great tool and I can easily recommend it.
