A Book of Prayers in Honour of Pier Giorgio Frassati - Fr. Timothy E Deeter - Associazione Pier Giorgio Frassati

A Book of Prayers in Honour of Pier Giorgio Frassati
Fr. Timothy E Deeter

I have been fascinated with Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, since I fist encountered him a few years ago. I have read a few books about him, and have prayed asking his intercession and for his canonization almost every day since that first encounter. His life is a fascinating story, and the lasting impact of his witness over almost 100 years since his passing is remarkable. He is a patron of Students; Young Catholics, Mountaineers; Youth groups, Catholic Action, Dominican tertiaries, and World Youth Day. Just recently it was announce he will be canonized in 2025. My son and I are eagerly anticipating this event.

The description of this book is:

“This little book of prayers contains a short biography of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, litany and various other prayers. This book also contains the beautiful novena to Bl. Pier Giorgio.”

The short biography in this volume begins with:

“THOSE who think of saints as shy and reclusive people who disdain this life while pining for the next world will be surprised by the figure of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati.

A practical joker known as "Rohespierre" or "the Holy Terror" by his friends whom he gathered together in a club called "The Sinister Ones". Frassati was a friend to the poor, in whom he saw Christ. And today's laity, especially young people, who are looking for a role model will find someone with whom 1hcy can identify in this s trapping young outdoorsman who combined political activism and work for social justice, and who lived his short life "to the full ".”

He did that. But what others found out about him after his death is what has drawn so many to him. His service to the poor. His sacrificial giving. His sense of duty, and honesty.

This is an excellent little volume. The prayers asking for the intercession of Frassati, the novena, the litany and the other collected prayers are wonderful. My son loves this little prayer booklet. He just finished a yearlong Frassati Leadership course through the Diocese of Hamilton. We picked up a collection of Frassati prayer cards for all the participants and leaders for graduation and commissioning. I wish I had picked up one of these for each of them as well.

My only regret is that there is no digital edition of this prayer book. I have a dual form of dyslexia and prefer eBooks so that I can change the font and the colour of the page and font to make reading easier. I can also have all my eBooks on me at all times. Even without a digital edition it is a wonderful addition to my spiritual toolbox, and is currently sitting at the top of a pile of prayer books beside my bed.

A great little volume we can easily recommend.
